‘Behold your Mother’

St Teresa of Jesus and St John of the Cross revived and confirmed Carmel’s devotion to Mary. She treasured and pondered the Word of God in her heart and we are invited to do the same.

For us, Mary is a Sister, Mother, Queen and Model. She stood at the foot of her Son’s Cross and she stands there with us helping us on our life’s journey. A vocation to Carmel is a call to live a life of prayer and communion with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, to whom the Order is dedicated.

We honour her daily by reciting the Angelus and praying the Litany of Loreto; also singing the Salve Regina on Saturdays and her feast days. As Carmelites our life of consecration can be summed up in Mary’s words to the servants at the wedding feast at Cana:

 

‘Do whatever He tells you’
